Brad is portrayed as a quite pitiful person. He lets himself be manipulated by his mother for years. Well, his siblings had suffered similar fate, but not to same degree as Brad. I have not read the previous books in this series, therefore I do not know if there is an explanation offered to why the mother was such an awful person.
Anyway, Brad married the woman his mother decided, produced offsprings when she demanded it and lived the life the way she meant it should go. The fact that his wife had also succumbed to the will of their mothers, is no excuse.
Then the tragedy struck and took lives of his whole family, leaving his life in shambles. He tries to drown his sorrow in alcohol. Fortunately one of his brothers manages to tempt him away from the hotel room he has been stuck in since his release from the hospital.
There he meets Rock, a very colourful person - tattooed, pierced and his clothes eye-catching. Rock is smaller than Brad, but dominant and full of confidence. What he wants, he takes - and Brad is definitely going to be his - come hell or Brad's mother. And she came, but this time her whole (and extended) family turned on her and put an end to her reign of terror.

Loved it it was just as great as the rest of the series I can't wait to read more of it I hope it's soon I can't wait I will be looking for it ....
The series was interesting. The characters are intense and easy to like. I looked forward to each book because of the well developed characters and their interaction. What I didn't like was the price of each book and how truly short they are, by the time you finish it has cost as much as a hardcover by a prestigious author.
Of all the Rescue books this was the one I hesitated to buy. I'm not much on tragedies or woahas me books but since I had them all I couldn't miss this one and, boy, am I glad I did. This one turned out to be my favorite so far. I love Rock! What a sweet heart. He's also a perfect match for Brad. I love how Rock steps up and, well, won't do a spoiler...let's just say Rock rocks!! ;). I love Bellann Summer's books....all a must read.

Again loved this installment. it was nice seeing the mother being put in her place finally by the family. i wonder if that is the last we hear from her. I can't imagine her giving up that easy. I liked that the author had Brad deal with his loss in a way that people can relate and you could feel the pain. Definiyely enjoyed the updates of the entire family and seeing how they were growing.
Book 7), and I think there is more in this "Rescue for Hire" series. Next is "Rescue for Hire West". Here we have Brad, veterinarian and Rock, newly hired tracker with his dog, Lily, who will replace injured Alex. Deep thought-filled richly woven characters are in every story, so I recommend reading them in order, but they could stand alone. A lot happens in this short story, so be ready for rescues, understanding, secrets revealed, acceptance, closure, the brotherhood against the evil mother who wants to ruin lives, and new found true love. Brad's mom has ruined his life enough, then had to deal with losing his family, and trying to pull himself together to move forward. Rock is offbeat and amazing for Brad. Together they hope to forge on. There is an interesting search for an older man with dementia. This series is full of action and excitement, the stories are short, maybe 1 1/2 hours each. I liked Rock and Brad, plus seeing the other guys and the progress they've made.
