This is a fun book for people who are tuned into soapmaking. It is not a great work of literature. Just mindless fun.
Although I had serious problems with the first book in the series, this one presents Ben as more ... mature. Four stars may be slightly generous here, but I found the book okay, when I wasn't really expecting to get through it easily.
Mr. Myers work is not terribly deep or thought-provoking...and sometimes that's precisely what I'm after. The soap-making classes are fun to follow, and have given me a hankering to try it myself. The murder plot was a bit more intriquing than the first Soap-Making Mystery, but it seems the characters' relationships take center stage in Mr. Myers' books. If you want a light book to read while waiting to get your car serviced or waiting at the doctor's office, this would be a good selection.
I enjoy reading these mysteries because they aren't heavy reading but are still very interesting. I also enjoy the tips about soapmaking
They are easy reading. The plot is always a surprising. They are not gorry. I have no problem if one of my grandchildren picks up one of my books and starts reading it. I have read all his Innkeeping series, I'm now in the Soapmaking series, then next will be the Candlemaking. Each main character is different. I just love the way Tim Myers writes.

II have read a few of Tims books and this is one of my favorites. The family values and humorous things that happens within the family is sheer entertainment. The way the murder is solved has some surprises.
